AkPIRG sponsored an Alternative Energy Conference at UAA in 1979. Currently, AkPIRG is a founding member of the Renewable Energy Alaska Project (REAP).

REAP is a coalition of urban and rural and Alaska utilities, businesses, conservation and consumer groups, and Alaska Natives with an interest in developing Alaska's vast renewable energy resources.
