Good Government

Advocating for transparent, accountable government systems that reflect and serve Alaskans.

Accountability & Transparency

  • AKPIRG closely monitors all types of government appointments to state boards, commissions, and state agencies.

Additionally AKPIRG monitors these commissions and files complaints to provide accountability when an individual or agency is committing an ethics violation under state law.

If you have a tip or relevant information relating to appointments or ethics violations you can reach out to AKPIRG at info@akpirg.org.

  • For years, AKPIRG advocated for legislation to legally require the state to maintain a publicly accessible and user friendly Online Checkbook to document state spending.

In the 2022 legislative session the Alaska Legislature passed Senate Bill 25, officially making the Alaska Online Checkbook the law of the land.

AKPIRG will continue to monitor the implementation of the checkbook to ensure it is properly implemented, managed, and updated.

Voting & Elections

  • In the 2020 Redistricting process, AKPIRG lead the Alaskans for Fair Redistricting Coalition in advocating for a fair and equitable map for all Alaskans.

Our efforts were successful, and directly contributed to the current maps.

Additionally, AKPIRG has continued the fight against gerrymandering through ongoing legal efforts to reconcile illegal decisions made by the majority on the Alaska Redistricting Board.

  • AKPIRG is an organizational partner of the Alaska Voter Hub, a nonpartisan coalition that strives to increase access to the ballot box through direct voter engagement and policy.

In recent election cycles, AKPIRG has engaged with thousands of voters at community events & phonebanks, encouraging Alaskans to turn out to the polls.

  • AKPIRG works across many different language access issues, including voting. Check out our language access resources for voters here.
