HOUSING ORGANIZER - DENA’INA EŁNENA
Nithya was born and raised in Anchorage (Dena’ina lands). Their family is from Eelam, the ancestral homeland of the Tamil people in Sri Lanka. Nithya graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage with a B.A. in History and a focus on genocide, fascism and US imperialism. They later went on to receive their Masters of Public Administration in Human Rights and Humanitarian policy from Columbia University. They have spent their career working in community organizing, political advocacy, youth development, and nonprofit management.
In their position as Housing Organizer, Nithya is excited to work towards a future where everyone in Anchorage has access to the housing they need to thrive. In their spare time, Nithya likes to write fiction about queer vampires, tromp around the mountains, and dance. You can reach Nithya at nithya@akpirg.org.
