January 21, 2026: AKPIRG selects Indra Arriaga as next Executive Director

The Alaska Public Interest Research Group (AKPIRG) Board of Directors is excited to announce the selection of Indra Arriaga as AKPIRG’s next Executive Director!

Indra brings decades of experience in community leadership and management to AKPIRG. After an early career in finance, management consulting, and research and analysis, she turned her skills toward the public and nonprofit sectors. There, she gained experience in areas including language access, energy, and community development, informing her understanding of Alaska’s complex and interconnected dynamics. Most recently, she served as Strategic and Operational Director with the Alaska Institute for Justice.

“It’s an honor to step into this role and to do work that is so aligned with my values and experience. I’m excited to build on AKPIRG’s strong foundation and contribute to a vision of Alaska where communities lead change, hold powerful interests accountable, and build transparent, equitable systems that work for all Alaskans,” said Indra Arriaga, Executive Director of AKPIRG.

“It’s been a privilege to lead our team during this transition, in partnership every step of the way with a board and staff deeply committed to our mission. Indra’s experience, integrity, and dedication to Alaska’s communities make her a natural fit for the passionate team at AKPIRG. We are thrilled to begin this new chapter with Indra at the helm.” said Erin Willahan, Deputy Director and outgoing Acting Executive Director.
