Recapping our Annual Legislative Fly-in! โ๏ธ
โEarlier this month, AKPIRG policy experts traveled to our state capital of Juneau on Lingรญt Aanรญ for our annual Legislative Fly-In! โ๏ธ
Over the course of the trip, AKPIRG staff held โ๏ธ38โ๏ธ meetings with legislative offices to discuss pressing issues like medical debt reform, housing affordability, stronger accountability for state boards and commissions, and community benefit agreements for major infrastructure projects, just to name a few.
Face-to-face time with lawmakers in Juneau is essential to moving good policy forward. These conversations help ensure that the concerns of Alaskans are heard directly in the rooms where decisions are made.
During the trip, AKPIRGโs Executive Director Indra Arriaga reflected on AKPIRGโs long history of advocating for Alaskans in state policy. For decades, AKPIRG has worked on the issues that shape life in our state, from affordability, to democracy, to emerging technology and infrastructure. Check out this video to hear from Indra about how that long-standing mandate still drives our work.
As the legislative session continues, we will keep pushing for policies that strengthen communities. If you believe in this work, consider making a donation to support it, and stay tuned for opportunities to take action with us throughout the session.
Welcoming New Board Members ๐
Weโre thrilled to welcome five new members to AKPIRGโs Board of Directors! ๐Joining Board Chair Faith Kannoju on the AKPIRG Board are Autumn Cantu, Karol Dixon, KC Casort, Julia Gregory, and Natalie Kiley-Bergen.
We are deeply grateful for the passion, insight, and commitment they bring to supporting our work on behalf of Alaskans. Their guidance will be invaluable as we continue advocating for affordable, just, and accountable policies across the state.
We also want to take a moment to thank two board members who are transitioning off the board this month, Sydney Scout and Ira Slomski-Pritz. Their dedication, leadership, and support over the years have made a lasting impact, and we are so grateful for everything theyโve contributed to AKPIRG.

Toolkit Highlight: Denaโina ๐
Weโre excited to share another resource from the Alaska Native Languages ACS Toolkit โ this time from the AKPIRG Denaโina Language Panel ๐ซ
If youโre selected to receive the ACS, you can mark all the languages you speak, including those you are learning! For anyone learning Denaโina or another Indigenous language, marking it on the ACS could help increase the visibility of that language in public life โ potentially making more resources and services accessible in your language, and supporting broader recognition and inclusion for future generations of speakers and learners of your Alaska Native language.
Chinโan to our Denaโina Language Panelists for creating this amazing resource!

This message is brought to you by the AKPIRG Dena'ina/Language Panel, with Edna Standifer, Jennifer Williams, and Donita Slawson.
